How do I make sure my audio guest book recordings sound their best?

September 10th, 2023

Your FêteFone messages are captured through a mono, analog, telephone microphone, so they will have the warm vintage sound you would expect from a vintage-style telephone.

Guests have had an amazing time with FêteFone in a variety of recording conditions. To ensure the highest quality recordings, we recommend placing your FêteFone away from bands, speakers, or other sources of loud music, as background noise can only be reduced in recordings, not eliminated. Placing your FêteFone Audio Guest Book away from loud music and significant background noise at your event also ensures that guests don’t feel like they have to shout to share their messages with you.

As we know it may not always be possible to account for background noise at your event, we also offer an optional professional audio engineering service to further enhance your message quality. With this service, our audio engineers will run each message through filters to reduce background noise from your event and to even out the volume of each recording, helping make your guests’ messages more clear and easy to hear. We also remove long pauses at the beginning of your messages, and hang up noises at the end, to help the recordings sound their best.

That being said, our audio engineers are ultimately limited by the source quality of the recordings and the nature of analog telephone technology. The quality of your recordings may depend on a variety of factors outside our control, including overall noise levels, the speaking voice and volume of the guest leaving the message, and the proximity of the handset to the guest’s mouth. To date, our audio engineers have processed more than 100,000 messages to help them sound their best.
